KENTUCKY-ARGONNE
OVERVIEW
Mission
The Kentucky-Argonne Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center will position Kentucky and U.S. industry as a top player in the lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery market.
Our vision is to re-establish the United States as a world-leader in battery manufacturing technologies through:
- scale-up of new battery materials
- technologies,
- equipment, and
- developing manufacturing processes.
About the Center
The center was established by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, and the Argonne National Laboratory and Argonne National Laboratory in 2010. It is housed at the Spindletop Research Complex in Lexington, Kentucky.
Partnerships
The success of the Center has been gained through its close relationships with several state and federal entities:
- Argonne National Laboratory - Argonne's Transportation Technology R & D Center works on advanced battery research, development, and testing. Their R & D focus is on advanced lithium battery technologies to meet the energy storage needs of the light-duty vehicle market.
- Commonwealth of Kentucky
Participants include:
The center will be administered through the UK Center for Applied Energy Research.
